Release Date 15 February 2007
Householders still suffering the effects of high energy prices should consider installing better insulation as a way of reducing bills – and helping the environment.
New figures just released by the Energy Saving Trust show that £950 million is needlessly being paid by householders every year in the UK, due to a lack of cavity wall insulation. The heat lost through unfilled cavity walls can make up to a third of a home’s energy bill according to the Energy Saving Trust.
Around 9.4 million homes in the UK have unfilled cavity walls, each wasting an average of £160 per year. Collectively, this wasted energy creates an unnecessary 7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide – which scientists believe is contributing to climate change.
The Energy Saving Trust is running an awareness campaign during February, in partnership with the National Insulation Association (NIA) and the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA).
Neil Marshall, Chief Executive of the NIA which represents over 90% of the companies involved in insulation work said: "Proper insulation is the simplest and most cost-effective way of reducing bills and 'going green'."
"NIA members work to a Code of Professional Practice which ensures householders will receive a professional, efficient, courteous and value for money service. All work is carried out with a 25-year guarantee as all our installers work to the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) standards."
